NEW CANEY, TX – The driver of a Kia Sportage was t-boned by a semi-truck after running a red light in southeast Montgomery County, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.
Troopers were dispatched to the intersection of Valley Ranch Pkwy and State Hwy 99/Grand Pkwy after receiving reports of the collision around 7:20 p.m.
Dashcam footage recovered from the semi-truck showed the Kia running a red light just before the collision.
The force of the impact sent the Kia into a pond. The truck traveled 500 feet before coming to a stop.
Emergency responders hospitalized the female driver at Memorial Hermann Woodlands in critical condition after extricating her from the wreckage.
The semi-truck driver was transported to the same hospital with a leg injury.
HAZMAT teams cleaned up a trail of motor oil that spilled onto the roadway as a result of the accident.
