HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A driver was killed early Tuesday morning after crashing his vehicle into the back of a parked 18-wheeler near the Pecan Park neighborhood in southeast Houston, according to Click2Houston.
The accident took place at 7400 La Porte Freeway near Independence Freeway at approximately 3:37 a.m.
A 2003 Peterbilt 379 with an attached flatbed trailer was stopped on the shoulder as its driver was sleeping. Investigators said the 18-wheeler was stopped out of the moving lane and had lights and four-way hazards turned on when a 2012 Infiniti 370 rear-ended the truck. The striking driver was impaled by rebar in the flatbed of the truck and died at the scene.
No other injuries were reported in the accident.
Roads in the area were closed as deputies conducted an investigation.
