Willie D. Powells III

Founding Attorney

Willie Powells, a visionary leader, and esteemed attorney, has steered the Law Offices of Willie D. Powells III & Associates PLLC to remarkable heights during his illustrious tenure as president and CEO. However, his path to establishing his own firm was an arduous journey, marked by self-discovery and invaluable lessons. From an early age, Powells possessed an unwavering drive to pursue a prestigious career, exploring diverse vocations such as medicine, engineering, and even the arts.

While attending Booker T. Washington High School for Engineering Professions, Powells excelled academically, laying the foundation for his future success. Garnering numerous full scholarships, he made the prudent choice to enroll at Drexel University, where he pursued a chemical engineering degree. This fortuitous decision set the stage for life-changing encounters with influential individuals who would shape his trajectory.

Among these luminaries was the renowned Double Doctorate MD Ph.D. Cato T. Laurencin, an African American professor at Drexel University. Laurencin's exceptional achievements as a chemical engineer, orthopedic surgeon, and scientist inspired Powells to push his own boundaries and strive for greatness. Under Laurencin's mentorship, Powells gained invaluable experience as a student and in a scientific laboratory, realizing his potential to make a lasting impact on the world.

Driven by a desire to serve his community and follow in the footsteps of his uncle, a respected judge in Chicago, Powells embarked on a journey to law school. After careful consideration and with a commitment to establishing himself in Houston, he enrolled at South Texas College of Law. During his time there, Powells sought to amass a wealth of experience, seizing prestigious internship opportunities at JP Morgan Chase and ExxonMobil. While the corporate world briefly captivated his interest, his profound scientific background guided him towards Patent and Intellectual Property Law.

An opportunity to work at a distinguished women-owned patent law firm in Houston, renowned for representing esteemed clients like AT&T, allowed Powells to deepen his expertise in protecting scientific innovations. Notably, it was during this period that he met Ms. Wendy Buskop, who encouraged him to pursue his true passions and not confine himself to a predetermined path. Empowered by her wisdom, Powells ventured into litigation at a prominent law firm, where a pivotal realization dawned on him.

Despite his prestigious position and substantial financial rewards, a simple question from his sister exposed a fundamental gap in his legal knowledge. Determined to provide comprehensive support to his clients, Powells made the life-altering decision to establish his own general practice. Thriving on the challenges of diverse legal domains such as tax, family, criminal, and injury law, he honed his skills to become a well-rounded attorney capable of offering expert guidance to those in need.

The turning point came when Powells handled his first high-end commercial trucking collision case, assuming full responsibility for its management and advocating for his client. The experience ignited an unquenchable passion within him and solidified his dedication to the legal profession. Today, at the helm of the Law Offices of Willie D. Powells III & Associates PLLC, Powells continues to make an indelible impact, securing million-dollar verdicts and earning accolades for his unwavering commitment to his clients.

Despite his remarkable success, Powells remains grounded and attributes his achievements to his faith in God. His insatiable drive propels him to explore new possibilities, as he firmly believes that limitless potential lies ahead. With an unwavering focus on the future, Powells sets his sights on continuous growth, always striving to move forward and make an enduring difference in the lives of his clients and the legal profession as a whole.
