SPRING, TX – An 18-year-old passenger was killed in a car crash early Sunday morning in Spring, Texas, reports ABC 13.
The crash occurred before 3 a.m. on the Grand Parkway near Campion Forest Drive. Officials say that though the 17-year-old driver appeared to be inebriated, both intoxication and the speed of the vehicle contributed to the severity of the crash.
According to police, the teenagers were speeding down the freeway when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete wall. The 18-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by officials.
The driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Two 13-year-old passengers who were in the back of the vehicle had to be flown to a hospital via helicopter. One of the two 13-year-old girls was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle at the time of collision.
