HOUSTON, TX — An 18-wheeler overturned early Wednesday morning, causing the Southwest Freeway to close near Houston’s Midtown neighborhood, according to KHOU11.
The incident occurred on the southbound lanes of the freeway (IH-69) near State Highway 288 shortly before 3:30 a.m.
Houston police said the big rig was hauling about 48,000 pounds of sheet metal when it began to flip at a bend in the road. The truck then slid until it jackknifed.
According to KHOU, the driver of the big rig did not appear to have sustained any significant injuries. No other vehicles were involved.
The event caused long delays for morning commuters, but by 8:40 a.m., all southbound lanes were reopened to traffic.
