Houston, TX – One person is dead and another hospitalized following a crash on the Southwest Freeway late Saturday morning, according to KHOU.
Investigators say the crash was the result of a street race. A Kia Stinger driven by a 20-year-old woman was racing against a Dodge Challenger driven by a 19-year-old man. The Kia strayed from its lane, struck the Challenger, and then slammed into a concrete barrier.
First responders were dispatched to the scene around 11:20 a.m. A passenger in the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was hospitalized in critical condition at Ben Taub Hospital. Police have charged her with racing causing death.
The driver of the Challenger fled the scene following the accident. Eventually, he returned, and is now charged with failure to render aid and racing causing death.
Houston PD is still investigating the incident.
