HOUSTON, TX – A motorist was killed early Saturday morning after colliding with a tree while attempting to flee police, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Houston Police assistant chief Patricia Cantu said that officers were responding to a call when they saw a vehicle speed through a red light. They activated their sirens, but the driver continued through several more red lights before crashing into a tree in the 3400 block of South Dairy Ashford Road.
Responding Houston Fire Department units pronounced the motorist dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Cantu decried the incident as “so unnecessary,” and reminded the public to comply with police orders so as to prevent such fatalities from happening in the future.
