HOUSTON, TX — A 62-year-old man died Monday after being struck by a driver backing out of a parking lot in Houston’s Gulfgate/Pine Valley neighborhood, according to Houston Police Department.
The fatal incident took place at 4300 Telephone Road at around 3:15 p.m.
HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck was reversing out of a private parking lot and into a traffic lane on Telephone Road when it collided with a pedestrian.
According to authorities, the male pedestrian had been crossing the roadway at the time and was not in a crosswalk or intersection.
Medics rushed the victim to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 47-year-old man, stayed at the scene and was released after questioning. Responding officers did not suspect him of intoxication.
An investigation was underway.
