Man dies after collisions caused by hit-and-run driver in SW Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A 24-year-old man died Sunday morning after a multi-car crash caused by a hit-and-run driver on Southwest Freeway in Houston’s Southampton area, according to Click2Houston.

The fatal event occurred on the northbound lanes of the freeway near Shepherd Drive at about 2:50 a.m.

Houston police said the man was driving northbound when a vehicle rear-ended him. The man’s car was then struck by a silver Infiniti and a BMW, causing it to overturn onto the freeway’s right shoulder.

According to authorities, the causing driver fled the scene while the driver of the Infiniti stayed behind. The driver of the BMW was taken to a nearby hospital for an evaluation and was later charged with DWI.

Crews shut down all inbound lanes near Shepherd Drive for multiple hours during an investigation.

No further information has been released, and Houston Police Department has not been able to provide a description of the suspect vehicle.
