HOUSTON, TX – Police in Houston say that eight people were injured yesterday evening by a driver who may have been illegally street racing at the time, and who then fled the scene on foot.
KHOU reports that the collision happened at about 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, in the 7500 block of S. Kirkwood Road in the Alief area.
A black Chevrolet Camaro was speeding south on Kirkwood when it collided with a Toyota minivan that was making a left-hand turn.
Eight people were in the van at the time of the crash, all of whom were taken to an area hospital. An 11-year-old child is believed to have been critically injured. The conditions of the other seven victims are unknown at this time.
Witnesses told police that the driver of the Camaro had been involved in a street race at the time of the collision, after which he abandoned the car and fled on foot.
A search for the missing driver is underway.
