HOUSTON, TX – The driver has been charged in connection to a hit-and-run collision that left a pedestrian dead late last week.
According to a report by HPD, the 44-year-old male pedestrian was struck on July 29th at about 8:30 p.m. within the 7900 block of Westheimer Road.
Investigators believe the man was crossing in the crosswalk when he was hit by a westbound Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda then pulled over in a nearby driveway and contacted police before fleeing the scene on foot.
The victim was pronounced dead upon firefighters’ arrival on the scene.
The driver, who has been identified as 21-year-old Walter Dewayne Petties, returned to the scene sometime later on and was taken into custody.
