HOUSTON, TX – Police have released the identity of the second person killed in Saturday’s fatal Tesla crash, KHOU reports.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences says that Everette Talbot was the 69-year-old man killed alongside 59-year-old Dr. William Varner when the 2019 Tesla Model S they were riding in ran off the roadway on Hammock Dunes Place. The Tesla caught fire, trapping the two men inside; it took firefighters four hours and 30,000 gallons of water to put out the blaze.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Initial reports suggested that the vehicle’s autopilot feature had been engaged, as neither victim was in the driver’s seat at the time of the collision. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has disputed this claim.
