The crash occurred on the inbound lanes of the highway at McGowen Street.
Authorities say one vehicle was southbound on Hamilton Street and another vehicle was eastbound on Pierce Street. One driver ran the red light, causing the first vehicle to travel over the barrier and onto an embankment on the highway.
The woman, who was a passenger in the fallen car, was transported to a hospital where she died from her injuries. The driver of the vehicle was also taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.
No other injuries were reported in the other involved vehicle, which remained on the main road.
