HOUSTON, TX — One person died early Friday morning after an 18-wheeler crashed and caught fire off the Hardy Toll Road in north Houston, according to ABC13.
The fatal crash occurred on the inbound lanes at Aldine Bender Road, near the city’s Greater Greenspoint area, shortly before 5:30 a.m.
It was not immediately clear what led up to the accident, but authorities said the driver veered off the roadway and slammed into the retaining wall. The truck traveled over the wall before crashing and bursting into flames.
All inbound lanes were closed to traffic as crews and investigators worked the scene, which included a hazmat spill. Morning commuters were advised to detour through the North Freeway.
No further details have been released on a possible cause of the crash, but authorities said no other vehicles were involved.
