HOUSTON, TX — A man died Monday evening after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in Houston’s Northside/Northline neighborhood, according to Houston Police Department.
The fatal incident occurred in the 5800 block of Airline Drive at approximately 5:50 p.m.
According to the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, a white Ford F-150 pickup truck was northbound when a pedestrian tried to run across the road. When a vehicle in front of the pickup abruptly stopped to avoid the pedestrian, the driver of the pickup swerved to the left to avoid the stopped car. The pickup traveled into the turning lane and hit the pedestrian, who was standing in the lane waiting to cross southbound traffic.
Fire medics rushed the victim to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities said the driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and cooperated with responding officers. He was not suspected of impairment.
As of this writing, no charges have been filed. An investigation remains in progress.
