Stay safe during spring break

Spring break is a time when many college students let off steam by taking road trips, attending parties or otherwise relaxing before making the final push to the end of the school year. Spring break activities are notoriously famous for their use of alcohol, and as you well know, overindulgence is common among college students.

Husband faces intoxication manslaughter after wife dies in crash

Deputies arrested a 49-year-old man on Tuesday after he killed his wife in an alleged drunk driving crash on a rural road in San Antonio. Carl Lee Morrison was charged with intoxication manslaughter. In the state of Texas intoxication manslaughter is the charge a person receives for causing a fatal motor vehicle accident while driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A preliminary report from the Sheriff's department puts Morrison and his wife traveling eastbound in separate vehicles. A few miles later it seems like Marlena Morrison made a quick U-turn, and as she was rounding the corner, her husband’s pickup truck slammed into the side of her sedan. When paramedics arrived, they pronounced Marlena dead at the scene.

As a Texas resident, you know that the weather can change in a matter of minutes, especially during the winter months. One day, Houston can experience shorts and t-shirt weather, the next there could be ice on the road. This becomes even more likely if you plan to travel for the holidays. If you are driving across the state to visit family for Thanksgiving or another holiday get-together, you might run into a whole gamut of different weather conditions, most of them bad. The last thing you want is to have a wreck or car problems while you are heading north on Highway 45 on your way out of town.

When does a motor vehicle accident constitute wrongful death?

Every time you get behind the wheel of a vehicle or ride as a passenger, you are taking a risk. After all, crashes happen every single day across Texas. Most of these crashes result in minor injuries. Some result in serious, even permanent injuries. A few are fatal. These crashes can happen without warning, many times caused by a driver who is intoxicated, impaired, distracted or simply negligent.
