Mother and daughter killed by boulder off truck

In a story that attracted national attention, a boulder fell off of a truck. The boulder then smacked a nearby car in which a mom and her adult driver were traveling. Both of the women wound up dying from the trauma that they suffered after being hit. The cause of death for both women was listed as trauma to the head.

April is a good month to remember victims of distracted driving

The National Safety Council has designated April as "Distracted Driving Awareness Month," and, in conjunction with this commemoration, has also launched its "Just Drive" campaign. As an organization dedicated to preventing accidental deaths and injuries, the Council is concerned that the uptick in fatal accidents across the country is related to the ongoing problem with distracted driving and is therefore promoting awareness of the problem in an effort to prevent it.

We work to hold inattentive, tired drivers accountable

A previous post on this blog talked about why it is so important for truckers in the Houston area to driver awake and alert at all times. Basically, if a trucker is not paying attention, or if he or she is too tired to respond quickly to an emergency, he or she is unlikely to be able to bring his or her truck to a stop in enough time to prevent a serious accident.

Why it is so important for truck drivers to drive safe

Although they wouldn't necessarily argue otherwise, a Houston, Texas, resident, particularly one who has not been involved in a truck accident, might wonder why our law office emphasizes the importance of truck drivers operating their vehicles awake, sober, and with no distractions, electronic or otherwise.

Handheld device rules help prevent Houston truck accidents

By this point in the 21st century, Houston residents are surely aware of how the use of handheld devices while an individual is driving can be deadly. This goes double for those who drive for a living, especially when they are in control of vehicles weighing several tons and taking up large swathes of the roadway. As with most things having to do with commercial trucking, the use of such devices is regulated by rules promulgated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Track crashes preventable

Injuries and fatalities from truck accidents are tragic, but it is even more alarming that 77,000 of these accidents could be prevented each year with existing technology. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety made this finding in its recent research.

What is 'negligence' in a Houston truck accident?

Large trucks are the lifeblood of the economy of Texas. Considering the size of the state, transporting goods from one place to another via the highways and byways constitutes a huge boon to both producers of those goods, the merchants who sell them, and the consumers who purchase them. No other form of transport offers the flexibility, reliability and price of trucking. However, this economic advantage comes at a price. Because trucks have to share the roads with other vehicles, mistakes made by truck drivers can have consequences, and deadly ones at that, considering the size and weight of the vehicles involved.

Taking action quickly after a truck accident in Houston

When it comes to vehicle accidents that occur on the roadways in Houston, the most immediate thought that most people have is to seek the appropriate medical treatment. That is obviously the best idea initially, but, after that, legal questions will need to be answered. Who or what caused the accident? Who was involved in the accident? And, in the event of a truck accident involving a semi-truck, will the trucking company try to put the blame on the other driver?

4 tips to avoid truck accidents over the holiday

If you are like many Texans, you have plans to celebrate the Fourth of July with friends and family. Whether you are going to a family cabin or heading out to watch fireworks with friends, chances are your plans will involve some travel. In fact, according to statistics, a whopping 38 million people are expected to drive over the weekend and into next week.
