HOUSTON, TX — A 6-year-old girl was killed Wednesday evening after being struck by a pickup truck as she was walking away from a school bus in northwest Houston, according to ABC13 Houston.
The incident occurred in the 9600 block of West Montgomery Road shortly before 5:00 p.m.
The girl was crossing the street after the bus had dropped her off in front of the Garden City Apartment Complex. According to Houston police, the she was not in a crosswalk when she was struck by a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Authorities say the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with an investigation. After an evaluation by officials, he was not believed to have been impaired at the time of the accident.
Houston Police Department and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate. Authorities are expected to review the driver’s phone records to determine whether distracted driving was a factor.
