HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A man died early Saturday after a collision involving two 18-wheeler trucks on East Freeway near Channelview, according to FOX26 Houston.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Channelview Fire crews responded to the scene in the 16600 block of East Freeway shortly before 3:30 a.m.
An early investigation shows an 18-wheeler was going south on the road while another was going east. One big rig was stopped at an intersection and then continued on. At the same time, the other truck had run the stop sign and collided with the other big rig’s trailer.
Officers arrived to find the victim trapped inside his truck, which had caught fire in the crash.
The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the other 18-wheeler was not reported injured.
Authorities believe high speed may have factored into the fatal crash. No drugs or alcohol were suspected.
An investigation was being conducted by HCSO’s Vehicle Crimes Division.
