HOUSTON, TX — A 69-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle late Monday night while crossing traffic lanes in Houston’s Uptown neighborhood, according to Houston Police Department.
The collision occurred in the 5400 block of Westheimer Road at approximately 11:45 p.m.
HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the victim was walking across the main lanes of the roadway while westbound vehicles were traveling on a green light. A black Cadillac Escalade swerved to avoid him, but ended up striking the victim in the roadway. As the Cadillac continued to swerve, it ran up onto a nearby sidewalk and scraped its passenger side against a light pole.
The male pedestrian was transported to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities said the involved driver, a 32-year-old man, did not display signs of intoxication. He cooperated with the police and was released.
