HOUSTON, TX — A man died Sunday evening after being hit by a car while selling flowers in Houston’s Northside/Northline neighborhood, according to FOX San Antonio.
The fatal incident occurred near Airline Drive and West Gulf Bank Road at around 6:00 p.m.
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a car collided with another vehicle, which caused it to travel over the roadway median, where it struck the victim while he was standing there. The impact of the crash sent the victim several feet away onto the hood of another car.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities said the causing driver attempted to flee the scene on foot after his car stopping functioning, but he was detained by an off-duty Houston police officer.
The suspect driver is expected to be charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid. No further information has been released at this time.
