HOUSTON, TX – Two people died and four others were taken to the hospital following a major multi-vehicle crash on the East Freeway early Sunday morning.
According to a report by KHOU, the crash was reported at about 2 a.m. within the 12700 block of the East Freeway, just past Federal Road.
Police say they spotted a Dodge Challenger Hellcat driving at a high rate of speed along the freeway. Officers attempted to catch the vehicle but lost sight of it. Moments later, they reached the site of the crash, which involved the Dodge and two other vehicles.
One of the vehicles involved caught fire as the other rolled an unknown number of times on the roadway.
Two people sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Four others were hospitalized with varying injuries. At least one of the injured suffered burns as a result of the fire.
The identities of those involved are being withheld pending further investigation.
