HOUSTON, TX — An 89-year-old male pedestrian was fatally injured early Tuesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while walking in the Greater Hobby area in southeast Houston, according to Houston Chronicle.
Houston police said the crash took place on the 7700 block of Braniff Road near the Telephone Road intersection shortly after 12:00 a.m. midnight.
The man was walking near the road at the same time a passing motorist was flashing his lights at another driver heading the opposite way. The other driver was confused by the signal and did not see the pedestrian as the vehicle struck him at a low speed.
The pedestrian died as a result of his injuries.
The causing driver cooperated with police following the crash. No charges have been filed.
Sgt. David Rose said no sidewalk along the road and insufficient lighting were contributing factors in the accident.
