HOUSTON, TX — A man died early Friday morning after being struck by two vehicles while riding a bicycle on Farm to Market Road 529 in northwest Houston, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred in the 15200 block of FM 529 near Houston’s Fairway West neighborhood at around 3:34 a.m.
Authorities say the man was riding a bike eastbound in the outside lane when an eastbound Toyota Corolla struck the rear of the bicyclist with its front left side. The Toyota traveled off the roadway and hit a sign in a grassy area. As the bicyclist was trying to crawl out of the roadway, he was run over by a Chevrolet pickup truck. The driver of the pickup continued driving a failed to stop and render aid.
The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A traffic release record indicated the rider had not been equipped with a rear reflector or a rear lamp emitting a red light. Scarce artificial lighting in the area also contributed to poor visibility, especially during nighttime hours.
The Sheriff’s Office describes the suspect Chevrolet pickup truck as being dark-colored and of an older-model.
An investigation remains underway by the HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division.
