HOUSTON, TX – Charges have been filed against a man police say fatally struck a pedestrian on North Loop on Saturday and then fled the scene.
According to a press release filed by the Houston Police Department, 84-year-old Pedro Diaz-Cruz fatally hit a pedestrian in the 4500 block of North Loop at about 9:30 p.m. on May 15. The pedestrian was subsequently hit a second time by a black Chevrolet Silverado.
Diaz-Cruz briefly stopped at the scene, and then fled. He was followed to his home by an off-duty Harris County Precinct 1 Deputy Constable, who detained him until Houston police took the suspect into custody. He has since been charged with leaving the scene of a crash.
The driver of the Silverado remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Investigators do not believe either driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
