Ten confirmed dead after Astroworld Festival at Houston’s NRG Park

HOUSTON, TX — A 9-year-old boy died Sunday, more than a week after a crowd surged during a performance by rapper Travis Scott at Houston’s Astroworld Festival, reports 6ABC.

The boy’s death marks the tenth fatality from the event that injured hundreds of others outside NRG Park on Friday, November 5, shortly after 9:00 p.m.

According to his family, the boy was sitting on his father’s shoulders as they attended the first night of the planned two-day festival. The pair was near the back of the crowd, consisting of nearly 50,000 concertgoers, when people began to surge toward the stage shortly after Scott appeared on stage. The boy’s father lost consciousness in the stampede and the boy was knocked to the ground and trampled.

After the young victim was located by his family, he was found to have suffered serious damage to his major organs. He was on life support before he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities confirmed the ninth victim, 22-year-old Bharti Shahani, died from her injuries last Wednesday, November 10.
