HOUSTON, TX — A 24-year-old suspected DUI driver was charged with intoxication manslaughter and assault after killing a bicyclist Monday in north Houston, according to KHOU11.

Houston police said the fatal crash happened at 3100 West Little York Road at about 2:15 a.m.

According to authorities, the suspect was speeding and swerving when his car struck a 38-year-old man riding a bicycle. The driver then lost control, causing the vehicle to collide with a power pole and brick wall before flipping over. A 19-year-old passenger was thrown from the car.

The cyclist died from his injuries at the scene.

The causing driver and his passenger were both taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after, the driver was taken into custody and formally charged for his role in the accident.
