UPDATE: Uber passenger dies after Southwest Fwy crash in west Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A 39-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle wreck while riding an Uber on the Southwest Freeway in west Houston, according to ABC13.

The collision occurred near Newcastle Drive in the city’s Greenway/Upper Kirby area, at around 3:00 a.m.

According to Houston police, the woman was sitting in a back passenger seat of a Mitsubishi Lancer when the car started experiencing mechanical issues. As the vehicle stalled in a traffic lane, it was rear-ended by a truck.

Authorities confirmed the victim died from her injuries at the scene.

The Uber driver, a 50-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital with broken ribs.

The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old man, was not reported injured. He remained at the scene and as not charged in the accident.
