Update: Woman, not child, killed in Christmas Eve hit-and-run

HOUSTON, TX – A woman, not a child, was among those killed in a hit-and-run on Gessner Road on Christmas Eve, ABC 13 reports.

This updates our earlier post, citing the same outlet, which held that a man and a child had died in the crash.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office now says that the individual they initially believed was a child was in fact an adult woman.

Alessio Bevinetto, 20, was driving too fast for conditions when his pickup truck slammed into a Toyota Camry that was crossing the street in the 7100 block of South Gessner. Juan and Martha Sapon, both occupants of the Camry, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe that Bevinetto was intoxicated at the time of the collision, but since he fled the scene and consequently could not be tested there, they cannot determine if he drank alcohol before or after the crash. He has been charged with two counts of failing to render aid deaths at the scene.
