News: Chemical leak at Six Flags park hospitalizes dozens

SPRING, TX – Dozens of people were sent to the hospital following a chemical leak at a water park on Saturday, reports MSN.

The incident took place at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown, which is located at 21300 I-45. A lifeguard and others began feeling ill and experience respiratory problems beginning around 2:30 p.m. on July 17.

The park was evacuated so investigators could assess the situation. They ran tests and found that the water contained a chemical combination of 10-13% bleach and 35% sulfuric acid — chemicals regularly used to clean and disinfect pool water.

In total, 65 people came into contact with the chemicals. A three-year-old child was the most affected. They are now in stable condition at Texas Children’s Hospital.

According to the Fire Marshall, none of the affected people suffered any chemical burns.

The park will be closed for at least two days so the incident can be investigated and a cause determined. This investigation will be conducted by Harris County Public Health officials and third-party experts, with cooperation by park management.
