News: Man killed in hit-and-run crash in Trinity-Houston Gardens

HOUSTON, TX — A 73-year-old man died Monday night in a hit-and-run collision near the Trinity/Houston Gardens neighborhood in northeast Houston, according to Houston Police Department.

The crash happened near the intersection of Homestead Road and Ley Road at around 6:35 p.m.

A blue Mazda CX-5 was heading southbound on Homestead Road and was attempting a left turn onto Ley Road when it was hit by a black four-door Chrysler. The driver of the Chrysler, who authorities believe ran a red light, was able to travel a short distance down the road until it became inoperable. The driver then exited the Chrysler and fled the scene on foot.

A passenger in the backseat of the Mazda was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was transported to a nearby hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Authorities are actively searching for the causing driver.
